Our popular Barrels, Bottles & Casks tasting tours return with a focus on the beverages and spirits consumed during the cool spring months in Jefferson’s time at Poplar Forest.
Guided tours begin in Thomas Jefferson’s kitchen and progress through the octagonal house with stops to sample different beverages and share insights into the types of foods consumed by Jefferson and the enslaved residents of Poplar Forest. Enjoy a cellar-side whisky tasting courtesy of Virginia Distillery Co., along with light seasonal snacks. A special exhibition of kitchen and dining artifacts found during recent archaeological excavations on the plantation will be on view in the Wine Cellar.
Visitors under the age of 21 are welcome; non-alcoholic beverages will be available on the tour. Tickets are available for purchase online or by calling the Museum Shop at 434.534.8120.
