Barrels, Bottles & Casks tours return to Poplar Forest! Join us on a guided tour through the octagonal villa as we focus on the beverages and foods that were common during Jefferson’s time, followed by a socially-distanced beverage tasting at the end of the tour.
As the tours progress through the main and lower levels of the house, hear insights from docents on the types of food and drink consumed by the Jefferson family and the Poplar Forest enslaved community. Then, proceed to our outdoor pavilion for a beer and wine tasting in the open air. In addition to the tasting samples, visitors will receive two free drink tickets that can be used for a larger serving of a sampled beverage. Grazing boxes from Purple Door Catering will be available for pre-purchase as well.
All Barrels, Bottles & Casks tours are limited to age 21+. Tour participants must show ID at the door. Visitors are encouraged to bring a flashlight to help light the way to the parking lot after the tours and tastings, and to wear comfortable walking shoes for the grassy terrain.
Admission is $25 per person; reservations are encouraged, as spots will be limited due to COVID-19 concerns.
Enjoy a grazing box provided by Purple Door Catering! Each box includes mini brie, honey and grapes to complement the wine, as well as pretzels and beer cheese to go with the beer. Order a grazing box and turn your tasting tour into a socially-distanced night out! Grazing boxes are $10 and all orders must be in by November 5th.
