IMPORTANT: Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Birthday Ball has been canceled. All tickets will be refunded immediately.
Come celebrate Jefferson’s 276th birthday in the style of his time! Join us for an elegant evening of festivities, including a birthday toast, cake cutting and colonial-era dancing.
Put on your dancing shoes and join Mr. Jefferson, as portrayed by actor Bill Barker, Young Jefferson, as portrayed by Kurt Smith, and their other guests for a party featuring performance and instruction by the Regency Society of Virginia and early-American violin and fiddle music by the Sons of Liberty. Wear your era-appropriate colonial clothing or modern cocktail attire and honor another year of Jefferson’s enduring legacy.
The ball begins with a champagne toast and cake reception, followed by a Regency-style dance party. Step out on the floor with dance masters from the Regency Society of Virginia, who will perform and teach country-style dances of the period such as the quadrille, cotillion and Scottish reel. Think Jane Austen and the marvelous balls portrayed in her novels.
Channel your inner Elizabeth Bennet or Mr. Darcy and don period-style clothing (encouraged but not required). Dance to the sounds of the Sons of Liberty, a lively trio of musicians—brothers Joshua, Noah and Daniel Smith from Jonesville, Virginia—whose unique, triple-fiddle presentation of 18th-century dance tunes for violin and fiddle will keep you on your toes.
Guests who desire a more immersive experience can opt for VIP admission and join Mr. Jefferson inside the villa for wine, hors d’oeuvres by Harry’s Bakery and Catering and music by the Sons of Liberty at 6:00 p.m., before joining the rest of his guests for cake and dancing under a tent on the south lawn at 7:00 p.m.
VIP tickets to Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday Ball are $125 per person. General admission tickets, which are $75 per person, include the cake reception and dancing. Advance reservations are required. For more information, call the Museum Shop at 434.534.8120.
All guests must show ID upon entry to partake of adult beverages.
